Family

My grandparents arrived yesterday from Boise, Idaho. I haven't seen them in about 2 or 3 years, so it has been fun to catch up. It's been really funny to see where I get things like my sense of humor, how I squint in photo graphs, and my love for English and literature... from my grandma.

I'm finally starting to get over my cold! Yeah! And things are definately crazy, but I am greatful that I am not in control and that God is. Five more weeks of school and then I am DONE.

Hope everyone has a great week and check out Holly's blog today...it cracks me up!

We LOST!

What a game. Our defense was awesome and so was our offense. Stupid 3 pointers. School is going to be depressing on Monday. Well, at least we played better than last year. It is just sad. Well, it's a good thing that my happiness is not found in basketball, but in Christ. Oh well, life goes on.

I've got the sniffles

What I thought were allergies has turned into a cold. I normally don't get sick very often, but when I do it's exhausting. I just hope I didn't get anyone else sick!

This week has been a real blessing. Cliffe Knechtle, who is a college evangelist, came out this week and conversed with students on campus about Christ. Cliffe comes out every spring to the U of A and has done so for the last 19 years. He is awesome. The usual mall preachers are pretty crass, but Cliffe is a breath of fresh air. For about 3 hours a day he just answers questions students and professors have about the Bible, Christ, God and anything they can come up with. And he is very logical about his answers and admits when he doesn't have the answer. He always brings everything back to Christ. People actually applaud him when he's done. I've learned so much from him this week about how easy it is to have a normal conversation about Christ with anyone.

I can't believe that school is almost over! Wow. Time sure flies when you are busy. My grandparents are coming out to visit next week. I know where my love for reading came from...my Grandma Marsh. She was an English teacher and she has some awesome short stories that she wrote about her life in Kansas. She and my grandfather met when they were going to college in Oklahoma and have been married for 50+ years. My mother is the oldest of 7 children. They now live in Idaho and come out to Arizona every couple of years. I also know where my love for OU people came from. My grandfather got is doctorate at OU. It's a small world.

I finally got to read for FUN!

For the most part in my sophomore year I haven't really read any books for FUN. I've read 3 books this week. Two were science-fiction/fantasy and another was a "coming of age" book...I guess that is how I would describe it. I've missed just being able to lay out on the couch and read for hours. AND not be disturbed! When I was younger I was a book worm. I had my head in a book for a good part of my day. My brother would always try to bug me or interrupt me while I was reading. I got to the point where I could tune him out...which has had some bad consequences now because now and again I'll revert back to tuning him out and not realize it. Old habits die hard.

Nothing really spectacular has happened this week. But it has been a good week to relax and rest. God is good!

Winter is GONE!

Yep, there is no more "winter" in Arizona. It's getting hot. So sad. It really doesn't start getting cold till about mid December and it stops around late February- early March. And the temperature just starts rising. I think the most depressing part is that I love winter clothes and only get to wear them straight for like a month.

I guess I should be happy that there is so much sunshine in Arizona. I think I would be so depressed it I lived in Seattle. Eighty-percent of the time there are no clouds in the sky here. Two weeks ago for a solid week there was no sun...everyone was depressed and I'm sure attendence is classes was way down.

Yeah for Spring Break. I get to finally relax for a week! And it starts NOW!

Knights, Princesses, and A Savior

I'm a sucker for Science-Fiction/Fantasy books. I mean Star Wars is my favorite trilogy. I decided that I needed to rest this weekend and I went to Borders to use the gift certificate that I received as a present for Chritmas (if that doesn't tell you that I haven't gotten out much since school started nothing else will....Sarah Renee Gleason not spending money on books...that is unheard of in my family). So I bought Desiring God by John Piper and a Fantasy book by Sharon Shinn called Mystic and Rider. I finished the book by Sharon Shinn today. I love her books. The character devolpment is awesome and she has the best story lines, with Knights, Ladies, magic and a great plot. I really enjoyed reading it and got some great "me" time in. I really needed it.

This week has been hard. My New Year's Resolution of enjoying being single has been really tested. Every week I find that more of my friends are pairing up, or getting engaged. Even my little brother (not engaged, thankfully). Spring is definately in the air. My friend La Shondra said it's like everyone is "twitterpated", which is kinda funny since Disney has released Bambi this month. Anyway, so this week has been trying, but God gave me this great verse on last night:

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
-Isaiah 43:2-3

This was such an encouragment to me! First, Jehovah is my God and my Savior. How cool is that?! And He is capable of keeping me out of harms way. And one of the things that He impressed upon me with this verse is that he can help me get through this season of singleness. I just need to transfer the knowledge I have of Him in my head to my heart.

So, I guess how I'm going to tie all of the themes together is that Knights in Shinning Armor are wonderful, but who can beat my God and Savior. Only He can guide me through flames in such a way that I come out unscathed, like the ones I'm in now. And hopefully I'll come out refined too.

I am so HAPPY!

Okay, the simplest thing makes me happy. I got my hair cut today! I love getting my hair cut. I don't know how to describe the feeling. Naomi, the wonderful person that cuts my hair, is brillant. I can describe anything to her and she makes it happen, and it looks good. The only thing that I really splurg on is my hair cut. I really just enjoy the atmosphere and being able to relax. And the head massage. And Naomi always flat-irons it and gives it a rocker look. Which only lasts a day, but it's a nice change from how I normally do my hair.

Sweet bliss! Just thought I would share. Have a wonderful day.

The Pros and Cons of Ditching Classes

Pros:
1) Sleeping in
2) Shopping
3) No Homework (at least that day)
4) More Sleeping
5) No backache from carrying 4 books in your backpack

Cons:
1) Finding out that you had an in class lab that day
2) Making up, another time, the work you were supposed to do in class
3) Finding out that your teacher decided to take attendence that day for a grade
4) You missed extra credit
5) Having a bigger headache than before you decided you were going to ditch class

A couple weeks ago I decided to ditch once class. I don't normally ditch classes cause I'm too much of a perfectionist and pessimist. I should've know that from my past experiences of ditching classes that it wasn't the best thing to do. Everytime I ditch class something bad happens. I ditched my Astronomy 203 class, then the next day I found out that we did our #2 Lab in-class...which is a huge percentage of my grade. God had mercy on me big time. Since so many people weren't in class that day my professor decided to give out a make-up lab (which isn't what I would've done if I were in his shoes, but God works in mysterious ways) Anyway I had to go, on my own time, to our schools observatory and look at 4 different types of objects in the sky and sketch them. Which sounded cool until I realized that we could only look through the telescope at night. So I was on campus last night until about 8:30 and then I had to drive home...which can take from 30-45 min. And do homework. So I won't be ditching classes anytime soon. I learned my lesson. For me at least, it's not worth it. I need my beauty sleep or I do not function like a normal person the next day. The moral of the story: I shouldn't waste that money I'm paying for school.
